Watch the live action trailer of Half-Life: Origins

Half-Life: Origins is a short film made by Infectious Designer that takes us back in time as we stepped into the Black Mesa Transit System and into the shoes of Gordon Freeman.

According to Infectious Designer: "After 10+ years since it's release, if you ever go back and replay the original Half-Life, it doesn't look anything like you remember. The graphics are horrible compared to present day games, but years ago it blew my mind. This videoplays with that contrast. I incorporated a fusion of live action and CG environments that give it a semi-realistic look, but also not realistic at the same time. Hope you enjoy it"

Nauticam NA-EPL2 Housing for Olympus E-PL2

Nauticam NA-EPL2 Housing for Olympus E-PL2, Olympus E-PL2 is the latest entrant into the Olympus micro 4/3 PEN series of mirror-less interchangeable lens cameras. With a 12 megapixel four-thirds size Live MOS sensor, in-camera image stabilization, 3” LCD, TruePic V processor, and 720p 30fps video, the E-PL2 is a small, lightweight camera capable of shooting high quality stills and HD video.

E-PL2 improves on the popular E-PL1 camera with faster 11-area contrast detection autofocus, larger LCD, built-in flash, and a new 14-42mm zoom lens with silent focusing for continuous autofocus video without lens noise. The camera takes advantage of a range of Olympus M.Zuiko Digital lenses, plus the excellent Panasonic Lumix G and Leica DG lenses.

E-PL2 supports manual, program, aperture, shutter speed, auto, scene and art exposure modes. Metering is accomplished via a TTL capable Digital ESP 324 zone multi-pattern system. Several white balance modes are available including custom white balance.

Nauticam NA-EPL2 Housing
E-PL2 shooters now have the option of stepping up to the durability and functionality of a rugged aluminum housing for their camera. The NA-EPL2 housing from Nauticam delivers the advanced functionality of the E-PL2 in style and with the ergonomics that people have come to expect from Nauticam.

This is a very compact and lightweight housing, with all of the E-PL2 camera controls available from the ergonomic grip sculpted into the side of the housing. A choice of hand strap and left/right handle means the shooter can customize the housing to meet their specific needs.

The same Nauticam patented locking port release system used in the popular Sony NEX-5 and Panasonic GH2 housings has been incorporated, allowing easy and secure port changes. Ports are available for the major lenses that are useful underwater, including the Olympus M.Zuiko 1442mm F3.5‐5.6 II kit lens and the Olympus M.Zuiko ED 9-18mm f/4.0-5.6 wide angle zoom.

The camera is quickly mounted in the housing via a snap in camera tray, and the housing is securely closed with a locking rotary latch. The compact form factor and outstanding low light performance make this a perfect system for technical divers exploring extended range environments.

The sculpted housing fits the E-PL2 camera perfectly. No controls need to be preset when installing the camera in the housing - simply drop it in. The housing is securely closed with a locking rotary latch.

Ergonomics is one of the areas that all Nauticam housings excel and the Nauticam NA-EPL2 housing is no exception. This housing puts all of the important controls on the camera within easy reach. Shutter Release, Zoom, Movie Record, and the control dials are placed for easy access. The Fn (function) button is placed for easy access with the right thumb allowing shooters to move the autofocus functionality from the shutter release to this button.

Adding to the Nauticam Port System
The port system for NA-EPL2 expands upon the existing port system for the NEX-5 housing, adding additional ports for the Olympus m4/3 lenses. Panasonic Lumix m4/3 lenses and Leica m4/3 lenses can be used with this camera as well, further expanding the lens choices. Lenses initially supported include the Lumix 14-42mm, the Lumix 14mm/2.5, the Lumix 8mm Fisheye, the superb Lumix 7-14mm, the Leica 45mm macro, Olympus 14-42mm, and Olympus 9-18mm. Zoom gears are available for the zoom lenses listed. The macro port includes a standard 67mm threaded mounting point for adding accessory wet lenses.

Locking Rotary Latch
The housing back is sealed with an easy to operate safety clasp. A safety release button must be pressed in order to begin rotating the clasp, eliminating the chance of accidental opening.

Nauticam Build Quality
Only the finest materials and cutting edge manufacturing processes are used to make Nauticam housings. The housing body is machined from solid aircraft grade aluminum, then hard anodized making it impervious to salt water. The flat port is optically coated glass. The large acrylic LCD window is treated with an anti-reflective, scratch resistant coating.

Optional Rubberized Ergonomic Handles
Nauticam uses a sophisticated over-mold process to produce extremely comfortable rubberized ergonomic handgrips. The soft feel and ergonomic design make the housing easy to grip and minimize hand fatigue on long dives. Both single and double handle configurations are available for complete customization, and each handle can be adjusted laterally allowing the user to dial in perfect fit. A hand strap is also available for those wishing an even smaller profile.

Optical Flash Connectors for Inon S-TTL, and Sea & Sea DS-TTL
Reliable automatic flash exposure is available with Nauticam housings and a variety of optically fired flashes. Inon Z-240, D-2000, S-2000, Sea & Sea YS-110 Alpha, and YS-01 strobes provide automated lighting, precisely reproducing the camera’s onboard flash at a proportionally greater intensity. This system yields accurate TTL flash performance with no electrical sync cables to flood! With EPL2, optical TTL is enhanced even more since EPL2 can perform TTL in manual exposure mode.

Olympus UFL-1 and UFL-2 strobes can be utilized as well. The UFL-2 can be operated via RC control over fiber optic, reducing the power used by the internal flash and thus decreasing recycle time.

The NA-EPL2 features a removable optical mount, allowing the user to easily switch between shooting with a strobe or shooting with built-in flash. Flash control is made easy by the combination of a flash popup button, and another lever to close the flash to make silhouette shots a breeze.

Strobes can be attached to the housing via optional strobe mounting balls on the handles or a single strobe mounting ball point on the housing. The housing also features a cold-shoe mount for even more mounting options.

Proven Construction Materials
Nauticam Housings are machined from a solid block of seawater resistant aluminum alloy, then hard anodized making them impervious to corrosion. All hardware is marine grade stainless steel. Acrylic windows protected with a scratch resistant material.

Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD

Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD review where I will take an in-depth look at all the features, pros, and cons of the system which may help you decide if the unit is the one that you are looking for. If you are in the market for a DVD receiver for your car, it can be quite a headache when choosing something that really fits your needs.

I know how it can be confusing for someone looking to buy a receiver for their cars only to find a big lack of information. Well, lucky for you I really tried my best to put in here everything that I know and feel about the AVH-P4200DVD.

Review

Display
The Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD possesses a 7-inch LCD Touchscreen with a resolution of 1440 x 234 pixels. The screen is very durable and does not scratch easily. Navigation is very smooth due to the high response time of the touch screen. Visibility even when there is daylight is bright and clear. I really liked the option to customize the LED and background colors.

Multimedia Playback
The capability to handle most CDs and DVDs is a real treat. Videos can play really well and can handle most of the formats widely used out there. It can handle DVDs, burned DVDs, audio CDs, and even files that were burned onto a recordable DVD.

Two minor annoyances are that video files that are burned onto a DVD or a USB drive can only be played if they are encoded in the "DivX" format and information contained by music files can only be displayed if they are on an iPod/iPhone and not on USB drives. These are mildly annoying, but I can live with it.

Connectivity
Connecting USB drives to the unit was no problem and it can read all the files contained in the disk. Same goes for the SD card. It can be a little slow when reading large USB drives, but there were no problems or errors.

iPod connectivity was great. I got the CD-IU200V cable in order to control my iPod directly from the unit and it works perfectly. All the music and videos can be played flawlessly and controlling the iPod is very easy and comfortable.

Sound Quality
This is where the Pioneer AVh-P4200DVD really showed me that I got my money's worth. My speakers were not really that high in quality and my previous system was proof of this. But when I bought the AVH-P4200DVD and put it in my car, the difference in sound was almost phenomenal. The high pass filter made my speakers sound about 10 times better. No complaints from me here.

Video Quality
The quality is okay as this is not really a High Definition player. It does what it says it does. The brightness and colors are nice and easy on the eyes and the quality is really good for a DVD player.

Expandability
The only expansion I got is the iPod direct control cable as it's the only one I need right now, but there are more options for everybody. There are Satellite/HD radio, CD/DVD changer, Bluetooth, and Navigation.
Pros and Cons
Pioneer AVH-P4200DVDPros
- Great Sound Quality
- Touch Screen responsiveness is precise
- Display is fantastic
- iPod/iPhone connectivity is smooth
- Can handle USB drives and SD cards without any problems
- Bang for your buck

Cons
- Can only display information of music files from iPod/iPhone
- Loading of large USB drives is a little slow

Samsung Galaxy Note FREE on Smart’s Plan 2000

By Pinoy Tech Blog

The Samsung Galaxy Note was officially launched yesterday and we learned that Smart will also be offering it on their data plan.

 Samsung Galaxy Note launch
Coco Domingo, Samsung Product Marketing Group Head for HHP, demoes the Galaxy Note during the launch

Starting next week, you will be able to get the Samsung Galaxy Note for free on their Plan 2000. You might want to grab this opportunity early because Smart reps said that this will run for a limited time only. There’s no time frame yet as to when it will end but when it does, it will move up to Plan 3000.

Smart also revealed that their Samsung Galaxy Notes will be having SmartNet built-in which is odd since you are already on an unlimited data plan which renders SmartNet’s free social networking and smart browsing moot. This would only mean that we would be seeing the Samsung Galaxy Note with SmartNet also available as a Smart prepaid kit in the future.

The Galaxy Note is Samsung’s “tweener” device which is a smartphone and tablet hybrid with its 5.3” HD SuperAMOLED screen, phone features and also comes with a stylus called the S-Pen. Global units support HSPA+ and LTE networks but we also found out that for our region, we’ll only get HSPA+ support from this device.

If you’re interested in getting the note under Smart’s Plan 2000, stay tuned for their announcement next week.

Dozens injured at BlackBerry Bold 9790 launch event in Indonesia

As dozens of people were injured, some lost consciousness at the scene, and at least three people were taken to the hospital with broken bones. All of this happens as Indonesia was chosen to be the first country to get the BlackBerry Bold 9790 smartphone, and organizers organize a special event at the Pacific Place shopping mall in South Jakarta to commemorate the event in which the phones were sold for Rp 2.3 million ($260) or 50% than the normal retail price of Rp 4.6 million.

The queue started forming as early as 4 p.m. the previous day and had grown to well over a thousand people by the time the event was about to start. Those who came early enough to qualify for the 50% discount were given a red bracelet from management before they could purchase a phone. However, rumors began circulating on Friday morning that the BlackBerry Bold 9790 had already sold out, which caused impatience and frustration to the BlackBerry fans to break the protective barrier.

As a result, Ambulances and paramedics were rushed to the site, and up to 200 police and security guards were also deployed to restore order. Eventually, the police closed the event prematurely at 1.30 a.m, and again sparks anger among BlackBerry fans.
