Archos’ latest generation of tablets was launched last December 8. The Archos Generation 9 in 8.0” and 10.1” screens, namely Archos 80 and Archos 101 respectively, runs Android Honeycomb.

Archos G9
According to Archos’ website it uses Texas Instrument Inc.’s OMAP™ 4 dual-core processor available in 1ghz up to 1.5ghz., luckily we got the 1.5ghz version.

The Archos 80 is pretty compact and perfect for on-the-go tech junkies, it’s light and slim at 465g for the Flash based system and around 600g for the HDD based system. The Archos G9 series supports a lot of video and audio formats, which is impressive because other companies will otherwise let you use propriety file formats which either degrades the quality of a video or an audio file. It also has a Mini-HDMI when you want to hook it up to your larger displays at home to watch movies, surf the net, or play Angry Birds on a big screen. I wasn’t able to test it with FLAC, but with my experience with a media player compatible with FLAC, audiophiles will get the satisfaction they want in a portable package. Battery life is rated at 36 hours for music playback, 7 hours for video playback and up to 10 hours for casual surfing, wasn’t able to test how long the unit can last as the event only lasted for a few hours.

Archos 101 G9

  • Display: 10.1” capacitive touchscreen, 1280 x 800
  • OS: Android 3.2 Honeycomb
  • Capacity: Flash Memory 8 or 16gb (Expandable with MicroSD up to 32gb)
  • Format Support: AVI, MP4, MOV, 3GP, MPG, PS, TS, VOB, MKV, FLV, RM, RMVB, ASF
  • Audio Playback: MP3, WAV, AAC, AAC+, OGG Vorbis, FLAC
  • Image Support: JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF
  • Camera: Front Camera 720p
  • Interfaces: MicroUSB, Mini-HDMI
  • Connections: WiFi, Bluetooth, (3G Optional)
  • Misc: Built-in GPS, Accelerometer, Built-in Stand
Archos 101
The Archos 101 is the big brother of the Archos 80. Not much of a difference except for the higher resolution; battery life is rated as the same, and obviously the bigger screen. I’m not sure if they will release the 250GB version of the Archos 101, but according to their website it’s also available in the HDD series. Hey, 48GB (16gb base model + 32GB SDHC) of media is not bad at all.

If you’re looking for tablets that won’t break your wallet, Archos gives you a variety of choices, with different configurations, as these new tablets are all Sub-20k.

Suggested Retail Price:

Archos 80 G9 250GB – Php19,999
Archos 101 G9 16GB – Php19,999
Optional 3G Dongle – Php3,000
